Some of the soldiers that lost their lives in the Revonlahti battle of the Finnish War in 1808 were buried near the Revonlahti Church. The locals erected the funerary monument at night on Midsummer’s Eve in 1914. It is said that the monument was set up at night to keep it secret from the Russian rulers of the time.
