Feel the thrill of speed easily in a sledding hill! The Raahe region offers numerous places where you can enjoy a fast descent with a sled, slide, toboggan, or maybe even a homemade contraption. However, let's make sure everything happens safely – patience is key, and keeping a safe distance is essential.

Sledding Tips in Raahe 

In the grounds of Raahe's Ski Center, you can ski or fatbike and perhaps get the best speeds in the city’s sledding hill. There’s a grill shelter nearby to prepare and enjoy snacks. The Ski Lodge doors are open daily for visitors from 9 am to 9 pm.

Within Raahe, you’ll also find sledding spots with unique names. Fantti Hill is located on an island of the same name opposite Old Town Raahe. Park at either Terässatama or Raahe Canoeing Center and walk a short distance along the pedestrian pathway and Fantti nature trail. Along the trail, there’s a campfire spot with a view of the historic wooden old town.

Another popular spot for sledding is Kyöpelinvuori in the Antinkangas district.

The more thrilling Pääkallovuori rises in Isoholmi, right next to Holmintie.

Huilamäki is located in Arkkukari. This hill rises alongside Highway 8, about 8 km south of Raahe. Turn left toward Leinoperä, continue on Haantie for about half a kilometer, then turn right onto Välihaantie, where you’ll find signs. There’s also a grill shelter at the top, so bring your own firewood to make a fire.

The Piehinki playground and sports area offers two sledding hills for those who prefer a more moderate pace. The area also has facilities for skating and skiing.

At Alpuanharju Ski Lodge in Vihanti, in addition to ski trails, you’ll find great sledding opportunities. A grill shelter is also available nearby for a snack break. The Ski Lodge is open daily from 9 am to 9 pm, so you can warm up as needed.

Sledding Hills in Pyhäjoki

The Rautiperä outdoor area is a family-friendly sports center. In winter, you can enjoy fast sledding, ski along lighted trails, take a refreshing dip in the ice, and visit Talvikiska for a warm drink and a bite to eat. The 4H youth-run Talvikiska is open on weekends during ski season. You can also grill sausages at the hut or at a lean-to on the 1 km ski loop. In summer, the area is popular for cycling, jogging, and swimming, and there’s also an 18-hole frisbee golf course. Large parking area.

Yppäri’s Pörkänmäki, maintained by the village association, is a family-friendly outdoor area and sledding hill near Yppäri school. There’s a hut with a lock code available by calling the number on the door. Trails and a skating rink are also nearby.

Parhalahti School’s sledding hill is located in the schoolyard. This thrilling hill provides top speeds due to its steepness. There’s also a skating rink and ski trails nearby. Large parking area.

The forest near Pirttikoski School, known locally as the “Hundred Acre Wood,” offers suitable sledding hills on rocks for younger children. There’s also a skating rink and ski trails nearby, and a ski trail leading to the nearby river. Large parking area.

Find the Perfect Speed in Siikajoki 

The Hietamaa recreation center in Ruukki offers ski trails, an ice swimming area, and a sledding hill in winter. There’s a hut near the sledding hill and a campfire site in Hietamaa as well.

The Häkkilänkangas sledding hill in Revonlahti is located along the ski trail, with a lean-to nearby. You can reach the sledding hill and lean-to by following the road from Keskuskatu 37.

Kirkkokukkula’s terrain offers skiing and sledding, with a hut and a lean-to next to the sledding hill.
