The plot at Rantakatu 26 is one of the oldest in Raahe and has probably been inhabited since the second half of the 17th century. It is defined and measured for the first time in the Cajanus grid plan of 1750.
One of the residents of the tallship era was postmaster Randén. "Some shipowners were grumpy when sailors wrote home so often, 'even every year'. And postmaster Randén was grumpy that it was pointless to write so diligently as every two weeks, as one lady from Raahe studying abroad did." (Samuli Paulaharju: Wanha Raahe)
Veikko Penttilä (1908-1981), headmaster of the Central School, and his wife Elsa bought the property in 1952 from the estate of Hugo Anselm Ingman, former teacher and headmaster of Raahe elementary school.
The current residents lived in the Palonkylä part of the town when the house at Rantakatu 26 came up for sale in spring 2013. They had dreamed of owning a house in Old Raahe and sometimes even of buying this very house if it ever came up for sale. The decision to make an offer was made quickly.
