The National Museum Visiting Raahe Museum

The National Museum is touring museums across Finland. During these weekend-long visits, you can see a cross-section of the most beloved classics from our national collections at your local museum.

The National Museum’s third visit will take place at Finland’s oldest local museum, the Raahe Museum's Sovelius House, on October 26-27. Sovelius House will be open on Saturday, October 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the museum is free throughout the weekend.

During the weekend, you can view a selection from the National Museum of Finland’s collections, spanning over 8,000 years. The oldest artifact is a moose head sculpture from the Stone Age found in Huittinen. Other nationally significant cultural heritage rarities on display include the Rusko dipper from 1542, made from a spruce root, and the 12th-century artistic masterpiece, the Halikko treasure. One of the historically significant treasures now on display is the painting The Attack, created by artist Edvard “Eetu” Isto in 1899. In the painting, the Russian double-headed eagle harasses the Maiden of Finland and tries to seize her law book. The year it was completed, Emperor Nicholas II issued his February Manifesto. More recent historical items include the “NATO Pen” from 2022, President Urho Kaleva Kekkonen’s glasses, and the original Atelje Fauni Moomin figures from the late 1950s.
