It's only a few more nights until Christmas Eve. The street lights illuminate the quiet Kauppakatu. The December evening has turned into night, while Elf Briskie is still wandering down the Kauppakatu with his electronic notebook in his hands. He thinks back to the 1960s.
- Kauppakatu had everything the people of Raahe needed: Laurinvaara shoe shop, Hassinen and Tokola general goods stores, Granlund's fish shop, Luovi and Timonen clothing stores, milliner Ravander's hat shop, Kallio hardware store, KOP (commercial bank), pharmacy, bookshop, Oinonen's photography studio, bars and Bio Huvimylly cinema, Briskie lists the businesses as he stands in front of the former Laurinvaara shoe shop.
Väinö Laurinvaara was a known sportsman. He directed his daughters into sports too. They had barely learned to walk when they were already ice skating with double-bladed skates attached to their shoes on a frozen rink on the potato field. Later, a proud father observed his daughters' progress in figure skating from the edge of the city's ice rink.
