COLOUR, LIGHT AND EMOTION brings the latest oil paintings by the Seminar Artists to Praati in Raahe. The Seminar Artists are a close-knit community of visual artists from Raahe who share a studio in the town’s historic seminary district. The exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in the elements of nature, the mystery of the sea and memories inspired by travel.

EXHIBITING ARTISTS:

Markus Hurme

Markus is an oil painting enthusiast from Raahe who has recently expanded his artistic expression to include delicate watercolours. His greatest source of inspiration is nature, and above all the sea in all its unpredictability. In Markus’s works, the mystery of the sea comes alive through contrasts: tranquil summer evenings bathed in golden light are juxtaposed with the relentless force of autumn storms.

Pirkko-Leena Parvinen

Pirkko-Leena is a visual artist from Raahe who works primarily with high-quality oil paints on durable linen canvas. Her style is representational, drawing on her own experiences and observations.

“Painting and drawing have been important to me since childhood. When I paint, time loses its meaning and the world around me disappears – there is only freedom, relaxation, myself and the painting.”

Pirkko-Leena’s works are inspired by places encountered on her travels around the world, as well as the ever-changing colours and forms of Finnish nature. Rather than copying an image directly, she brings recognisable places and subjects to life through creativity, imagination and narrative details.

The exhibition is part of the official Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture programme.
