Kirkkokatu 10, Raahe Church, Raahe Parish

Raahe Church was completed in 1912, designed by architect Josef Stenbäck in the National Romantic style. The church was built of granite quarried from nearby islands.

The parish of Raahe has had three churches. Immediately after the parish was founded, the enterprising mayor Henrik Corte ordered the Ristikari pulpit to be moved to what was then the town square (now Myrberg Park).

Raahe's new wooden church was a typical longitudinal church of the 17th century. The mayor of Raahe, Henrik Corte, invited Mikael Balt to make a pulpit for the new church. It was completed in 1655. Balt settled in Oulu in 1658. He made the wooden sculptures for the church in Raahe between 1669 and 1673. The church burnt down in 1908.

As the bell tower did not burn, the wooden sculptures of Mikael Balt stored there were preserved. St Agatha is said to have kept the wind from blowing in the direction of the bell tower. In 1912, the sculptures were placed in the Raahe Museum.

The present church in Raahe was built between 1909 and 1912 on the site of the wooden church that burnt down in 1908. The church was consecrated by the then Bishop of the Diocese of Oulu, J.R. Koskimies on 24 March 1912 and the church was named the Church of the Holy Trinity.
