Designer Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen’s extensive exhibition "The Touch of Beauty" takes visitors on an extraordinary journey through Finnish design: glass art, silver jewellery, unique evening gowns, scale models, rya rugs, ceramics and steel sculptures. The exhibition showcases an uncompromising and versatile artist.
Exhibition venues:
– Raahe Event House: Myötätuuli Gallery and Raahesali Lobby Gallery, Kirkkokatu 28
– Raahe City Library, Rantakatu 45
– Sovelius Museum, Rantakatu 36
The rich collection of the Raahe Event House galleries includes 150 works and objects: spectacular art glass works, silver jewelry, unique evening dresses, miniature models, rugs, ceramics and steel sculptures, the largest of which rises to a height of almost two meters.
In the main library's exhibition space, you can return to the golden age of our clothing design all the way back to the 1970s, when Finnish outfits also graced international catwalks and the pages of international fashion publications. The exhibition's outfits, hundreds of photos and drawings bring to life the great brands such as Piretta, Silo, Kestilä, Finn Flare and P.T.A. and the Ril's designer collection, which are complemented by the unique costumes seen at the Finnish Independence Day Reception at the Presidential Palace and the service uniforms for Finnair staff created as a result of an invitation competition.
In the picturesque setting of Sovelius museum, the oldest residential building in Raahe, built in the 1780s, you can see wonderful glass sculptures.
The exhibition sites are open throughout the summer Mon–Fri from 11 am to 5 pm and Sat–Sun from 12 pm to 4 pm.
The event is part of the official Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture programme.
